Set system attributes

Unisphere supports the management of settings (preferences) that allow the user to monitor and manage storage systems.

Prerequisites

Depending on the storage system operation environment, some of the following attributes may not apply.

To set system attributes:

Steps

  1. Select Settings icon to open the Settings panel.
  2. Select Management > System Attributes.
The system attributes information is displayed for the first of the listed storage systems.
  3. Select the ID of the storage system to be updated from the drop-down menu. Depending on the storage system selected, some of the attributes might not apply.
  4. Modify any number of the attributes.
Attributes are organized into the following panels:
    • General:
Service Level RT Multiplier Set the Service Level RT Multiplier to the wanted value (Default, None, or Low). This setting allows you to change the QoS delay across the dtorage system. The different values limit the delay. Default is 5 x delay, Low is 2 x delay and None is 1 x delay (no delay limit).
Hot Swap Policy Specify the hot swap policy to be one of the following:
Permanent Specifies that the spare drive become the active (permanent) drive. In this case, the data is not moved back to the drive that experienced the failure.
Temporary Specifies that once the failed drive is swapped, the spare copies all of the data back to the original drive and becomes spare again.
    • PAV: This panel only displays for storage systems with either ESCON or FICON directors. Set the following parameters (z/OS only):
Alias Limit Type the maximum number of aliases that can be assigned to a volume.
Mode Select one of the following PAV types:
NoPAV PAV not configured for the storage system.
      StandardPAV Volumes with static aliasing.
DynamicStandardPAV Standard PAV volumes with dynamic aliasing.
    • SRDF/A:
Maximum Cache Usage (Percent) Type the maximum percentage of system write-pending cache slots for all SRDF/A sessions. Valid values are 0 to 100.
Maximum Host Throttle (s) Type the maximum percentage of system write-pending cache slots for all RDF/A sessions. Valid values are 0 to 65535.
    • SRDF DIRECTORS: These attribute settings control mixed I/O workloads on the same SRDF director.
SRDF Director CPU Resource Distribution Indicates whether the director CPU resource distribution feature is enabled or disabled.
Synchronous I/O Percent Type the percentage of director resources to allocate for SRDF synchronous I/O operations per second.
Asynchronous I/O Percent Type the percentage of director resources to allocate for SRDF asynchronous I/O operations per second.
Copy I/O Percent Type the percentage of director resources to allocate for copy I/O operations per second.
Percentages for synchronous, asynchronous, and copy I/O must add up to 100. Percentage values can be set even if the SRDF Director CPU Resource Distribution is disabled.
    • Audit Log:
Audit Log Checkbox used to select that records are generated in the legacy format (not applicable for storage systems running PowerMaxOS 10 (6079)). The audit log message catalog is a catalog of the audit messages that Solutions Enabler writes to storage systems. A new, standardized audit format has been adopted for storage systems running PowerMaxOS 10 (6079). You can request that this new format be used (instead of the legacy format) on storage systems running HYPERMAX OS 5977 or PowerMaxOS 5978 by clearing the Audit Log checkbox.
    • PowerPath:
Host Registration Checkbox used to select host registration for PowerPath.
Initiator Registration Checkbox used to select initiator registration for PowerPath.
  5. Click Apply.
